Speech Accuracy Trainer for SpeechMagic

The Speech Accuracy Trainer for SpeechMagic enables you to improve speech recognition by explicitly tailoring the system to your requirements. In general the system primarily learns by analyzing your finalized reports; training the system explicitly might be necessary in the case of words or phrases repeatedly misrecognized.

Note: Any changes you make will only be available to you. Other users of the system will not be affected.

What do you want to do?

Correct a misrecognized word once

Correct a misrecognized word and teach the system to recognize it correctly in the future

What do you want to do?

Correcting a misrecognized word once

Use this function if you want to correct the word only once and not for all future reports.

To correct a word only once, do the following:

  1. In your document, put the cursor somewhere in or next to the word or select the word.

  2. Start the Speech Accuracy Trainer.

The system lists words that are already in the system and that resemble the word you selected.

  1. Click a word in the list; the word you are training changes to the word you clicked.

  1. Click Correct to apply your correction to the current document.

Note: If the word you are looking for is not part of the list, manually correct the word in the Word to train field and click Add to add it permanently to the system. If you accidentally added a word, you can remove it in the Personal Lexicon Manager. For more information, see the Personal Lexicon Manager Help.

The word is replaced in the current document. Only the current document is modified, future documents are not affected by this action.

Correcting a misrecognized word and teaching the system to recognize it correctly in the future

To correct a word in the current document and teach the system to recognize it correctly in the future, do the following:

  1. In your document, put the cursor somewhere in or next to the word or select the word.

  2. Start the Speech Accuracy Trainer.

The system lists words that are already in the system and that resemble the word you selected.

  1. Click a word in the list; the word you are training changes to the word you clicked.

  1. Click the arrow next to Improve performance to teach the system how you pronounce this word.

Note: You can either record or type in how you pronounce the word; you cannot do both. You can only switch between the Record How You Pronounce This Word tab and the Type in How You Pronounce This Word tab after you have deleted the information provided in the other tab.

  1. To record how you pronounce the word, open the Record How You Pronounce This Word tab, click Record, say the word and click Stop. Click Playback to listen to your recording. Make sure this is the way you regularly pronounce this word when you dictate a report. If you are not satisfied with the recording, click Delete and try again.

Alternatively, you can write down how you pronounce the word. To do this, open the Type in How You Pronounce This Word tab and type in how you pronounce the word. For more information, see Typing in how you pronounce a word.

  1. Click Train.

Note: If the word you dictated is not part of the list, correct it in the Word to train field and click Add to add it permanently to the system. For most words, providing information on how you pronounce the word is not required; in some cases, however, the system will ask you for that information before you can add the word to the system. If you accidentally added a word, you can remove it in the Personal Lexicon Manager. For more information, see the Personal Lexicon Manager Help.

Important: When you change the word you want to train (for example, by selecting a word from the list of similar words provided) any information provided in the Improve performance section is discarded.

Removing a word from the system

Use this function if you accidentally added a word to the system or if a word continually appears in the recognized text even though you did not dictate it.

  2. Start the Speech Accuracy Trainer.

The word will still be available to other users but it will no longer be recognized in your reports.

If you accidentally removed a word, you can reactivate it in the Personal Lexicon Manager. For more information, see the Personal Lexicon Manager Help.

Undoing performance improvements you previously made for a word

About Speech Accuracy Trainer for SpeechMagic

Typing in how you pronounce a word

When you add a new word to the system, the system usually generates a phonetic transcription automatically. Providing additional information on how the word is pronounced via the Improve performance function is optional. However, in some cases, providing information on pronunciation is beneficial or even mandatory. The written representation you provide tells the system how a special word, such as an abbreviation, a word containing special characters, or a proper name, is pronounced without using a phonetic alphabet.

To provide a phonetic description, type in the word as it sounds when you say it.

The length of recorded sound is displayed in milliseconds on the right side of the Improve performance section.

The maximum length of the recorded sound is 10 seconds. Periods of silence (when the volume drops below a certain level) are not included. Words that you cannot add or train

The Speech Accuracy Trainer cannot add or train the following:

If you want to improve the recognition of a phrase or command, you might be able to train the individual words separately. For example, to improve recognition of the date '01 Jan. 2020', you could train 'first', 'January' and 'twenty'.
